Evaluation 4 - How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

During the product,I have used a range of software and internet technologies to research, plan, evaluate and create my finished products.

Research    

In the first stage of this product, I completed a number of tasks that involved researching how I should create my products depending on the genre. In this process I have used  number of technologies online to complete this. The first major tool I used was Google, Google is a popular search engine which allowed me to search for sites that contained to necessary information I needed. Using Google I was able to find sites such as Wikipedia this site contains a massive database of information where I was able to find information on artists, albums, digipak and many other relevant information.

Another site that has allowed me to complete a range of research is YouTube. Here are was able to complete textual analysis on existing artists video. There were a range of video which allowed be to evaluate them on cinematography, editing, and much more.

I also used the internet to research website and digipak ideas. In terms of websites, I find a number of sites which include Jake Buggs and Arctic Monkeys, these sites were influential to my finished products greatly and share many conventions of my chosen genre indie rock.

Plan

The next stage of my project was to plan how I was going to create my productions. In this i used a range of technologies to perform this work. I created a storyboard for my Music video which contains the shots that I would use, a digipak design for my digipak production and a detailed plan of the structure and content of my website. Once they were completed I used Blogger to upload my work and add to my project. Blogger has been a very useful site to complete my work other the years, It allows me to share my work with my classmates and teachers. This allows for a range of feedback from a number of people.

Construction 

In terms of constructions of my products, I have used a range of internet and software devices to create them. For my website I used a website on the internet called Moonfruit. This site allowed me to create my website in the best possible way. I was able to create the pages that I required from my planning and design them using colours and text. In was also able to add much content to the site, this included photos, links to a number of thinks such as Amazon purchases for albums, YouTube videos, and much more. The site was also fully functional like normal sites with links inserted to take the user from page to page with one click.

Next my Digipak. TO create this I used a software called Photoshop. This software allows me to design many thinks in the best professional way. I fist added my Digipak design which I find on a website ....... I then was able to add colour, text, Images, copyright logos and much more to create a theme for the band. Once competed I added the finished product to blogger using screenshots.

The final software I used was final cut to create my Music Video. Final cut is a great software which allows the user to create all manners of video through editing. I was able to import my footage into the software. I also imported my music for the video and added it to the timeline, Once this was added i was able to use my storyboard and add the footage that was required at the right time. Once the footage was placed into the right areas i was then able to add a number of effects which included colour correctors and fade in and fade outs.

Evaluation

For my evaluations, i have used a number of technologies, Firstly i have used Google docs to create a presentation for question 1. Google docs is very useful as i can access it any time on any computer with a internet connections, This was very helpful for completed work where ever i may be such as at home or college. Once completed i was able to add the presentation to blogger using HTML 

Evaluation 3 - What I have learned from my audience feedback?

In this project I was required to complete a range of audience research, so I could gather feedback which would give me ideas and make my finished products better. I distributed my finished products in a number of ways so I could generate this feedback.

Video

Once I had completed all three of my products (digipak, Website and Music Video) I showed them to classmate and family. Once they had seen them I gathered there feedback through video which I filmed on my phone, i then added this to YouTube. An example can be seen below.


In this process, I was able to gather much positive feedback on my products, for example i learned that i used could conventions throughout by having a urban feel to the products, with the use of photos. In Ben video he also said that the music video used could conventions of existing indie rock bands. From what he was saying the Arctic monkeys who share a similar style in many of there music videos to mine which I was heavily influenced by. I also learned what I could have done, such as adding lip sinking to my track and maybe adding more scenes at a faster pace.

During the design consideration for my texts ( which are The music video,Website and digipak) they all share similar design aspects and conventions related to the genre Indie rock. The track i used was from the Band Milburn.

Firstly when the audience looks through my music video, they will see the location is similar throughout. I used mainly urban locations throughout my video, such as city streets. I decided that i wanted an urban theme throughout my work, not just in the video but text and colour as well. I did this by taking pictures of the locations i had used and add them to by digipak and website. I think this is useful as it makes the website, digipak and music video very similar. Making them similar is very effective, for example if an audience member saw the music video and then the digipak, they would know that they are related.

During research, i was heavily influenced by bands of the same genre as Milburn (such as The arctic Monkeys and Jake Bugg). In the Arctic Monkeys new album ‘AM’ they use a very similar artistic style throughout, mainly colour of black and white. I used this throughout my main products and texts, using the same colours such as blue and the same font.

Final Edit - Changes

I have made several changes to my music video. These come from feedback i received from my rough cut. I have also added changes that i thought should be implemented in my final edit. The first change i have made to my final edit is a effect that i added. This effect was put on many clips in my video, mainly the clips at the start of my video. The effect that i added was a tint. This changed the colour of the scene slightly which gives it a grey effect.

As you can see from the above, there is a significant amount of change in terms of the colour in the final edit compared to the rough cut. The reason i added this was my own idea and feedback i received. In the feedback they said they liked the urban theme that was implemented in the rough cut. I think this effect makes the visuals more urban looking which adds more of a theme to the video.

Adding track to final cut

Firstly, i purchased my track (Milburn - Lo and Behold) from itunes. I purchased it from itunes because this is the easy way to take the track and import it into final cut, only a couple of processes are needed, which can be seen below.

Before i can import the track into final cut, i need to convert it to a WAV file. I need to do this because the track will not function right if it is not done. First i highlight and double click on the track, then I scrolled down to create WAV Version and click on it.

Once i clicked on this, a new track appears below the original. The new track is the Wav file and now i could take the next step to import it into final cut pro. I then dragged the track into my desktop so i can easily find it later.

Next I opened my final cut document. I went to file - Import - Files.

I then find my track in the folder that i placed it in. I highlighted it and clicked choose. This should then import the document into final cut.

When the track was imported into final cut, it was placed into the area where all my footage was placed. I then simply dragged the track into the sound area of the editing area. The track now fits in with the footage.

Website Planning

In the document i will show the planning stage for my Website. I will show how the website will be structured with images, navigation, pages and background colors. I plan to use many themes that illustrate the band. I first need to find a a system where i can create my website. I have decided to use the site moonfruit. This website allows the user to create a website at no cost. The user first signs up through Facebook or Google plus. They can then choose a template and then start editing the clip which ever way they choose. Below a step by step process of how i will create my website using moonfruit.

• Choose a template.
• Pick main background colour.
• Create pages for home page, Artist Information, Gigs, Albums, merchandise.
• Add images of band.
• And text and headings. Find heading fonts using Da font.
• Add Final digipak design for Album cover. 
• Create Links to pages.
